The Augustus John is ideally situated on the edge of the riverside town of Fordingbridge, known as 'The Northern Gateway to The New Forest'.

We are within easy reach of the famous Cathedral city of Salisbury, the bustling seaside town of Bournemouth and the busy commercial centre of Southampton. As well as the peaceful tranquillity of the New Forest with its nature havens, visitors can also experience a host of other cycle-ways and bridle paths locally.

To keep the family active, there is Sandy Balls Leisure Centre just outside Fordingbridge, while a short trip away are the attractions of Moors Valley Country Park and Romsey Rapids for the kids. For those historically minded people who want to learn more about the roots of the New Forest and its residents, why not visit the beautiful stately home of Breamore House or the historic site of Rockbourne Roman Villa only a short drive away. Fordingbridge Museum is a must-see if you would like to learn more about the town and its most famous resident!

For history further afoot, visit the ancient city of Salisbury and take a trip to the world-famous Stonehenge, one of the most mysterious locations in the UK! While in Salisbury, check out the Cathedral, which holds the record for the tallest spire in the whole of Europe! The city also offers a large range of shops, both household names and independent stores to browse as you take in the past of the beautiful city. Why not get a picnic together and sit on the lawn of the cathedral? Not only that, but the Salisbury Market is held in the centre of town every Tuesday and Saturday- definitely worth a visit!

Salisbury is great for shopping, while enjoying a quiet break and taking in some of the older features of the city, including some pubs which date back hundreds of years. For even more shops, simply park and take the train a few minutes to Southampton where you will find huge high streets, loads of shops and West Quay, one of the best shopping centres in the south. If the weather is good, then a trip to the beach is in order. Bournemouth beach is only a half hour drive away and offers spectacular views along with trips to places such as Poole Harbour and Swanage. The beach is easily accessible from the town centre and buses back to Fordingbridge are frequent, if you don't feel like driving.
